I’M In Alaska And My White Mercedes Is Missing

I was going to school at U of A
and all the classrooms were closed,
the libraries closed.
All the thoughts in books shut-out.

So I got outside and even the outdoors were closed.
The snow made everything look dead.

It was night and so dry and cold
I couldn’t feel my fingers.
Alaska is a weird, weird town
because the Eskimos look at me
like I’ve committed the biggest crime
when my white mercedes is missing!

Lost, I keep walking cold white hills.
So lost it would make you weep,
I am near weeping.
I’m in Alaska and my white mercedes is missing,
still missing.
I get to a junkyard full of cars and more cars.
Some kinds of new and old
all in the same pile.

And my white mercedes is at the very bottom.
Smashed, it blends with patches of snow.
